Job Seeking Suggestions

Are you currently a new college graduate and preparing to look for a job? Have you just lately quit your career and are looking for better work? Are you currently out of work and having trouble securing a job? What ever your scenario might be, it may help to review the following suggestions:

Look over your CV for errors

Prior to sending your CV to a potential recruiter, look at your CV for ways to improvement it. Read it over a minimum of 3 times prior to handing it out. After researching information about the job position, it’s crucial that you simply format your CV to fit the requirements of the business.

For instance, if you’re trying to get an bookkeeping job, you need to put in details about your bookkeeping experience on your CV. Typographical mistakes as well as grammatical mistakes are severe no-no’s. It’s also perfect to maintain the length of the CV’ to a minimum of a page and a half long.

Taking the job interview challenge

Market research performed by an employment and consultation firm located in California which spoke with 1,405 chief financial officers determined that employment seekers caused the majority of their errors on the job interview. A few of the errors they produced consist of: arriving late, having little knowledge concerning the business and also the job they applied for, and lastly getting a superiority complex and acting arrogantly.

The job seeker’s body expressions should also denote that he’s confident but not overwhelming. He should preserve eye contact, have a powerful hand shake, and steer clear of appearing protective through the act of crossing the arms. Dressed in the proper clothes is essential for projecting a positive stance. As the saying goes, it’s much better to go to a job interview over-dressed than showing up under-dressed.

 Answer concerns smartly

A typical error of people getting interviewed is they have a tendency to get tense and end up forgetting the information which they have learned as they get ready for the job interview. It’s essential to fully understand the business and also the position requested to stop becoming side-tracked throughout the interview.

In the event you don’t understand the answer to the question being asked, it’s much better to admit you do not know the answer and add that you simply can learn it. Look for the abilities or expertise that the business is searching for in their job posting, so that when the job interview day comes you’ll be in a position to show how you match whatever they require.

Obtaining the essential referrals

Getting a referral from other business employees can go a very long way towards getting a job interview.  A normal business might obtain job applications from hundreds and generally 35% to 60% of all job openings are filled up by personal references. The chances of getting hired from a referral are extremely high when you have 200 to 500 candidates competing for the exact same job.

In the event you don’t know anybody from the business that might provide you with a referral, it’s a great idea to look at your alumni circles from university, trade groups, social networking sites, and expert organizations. Keep in mind, getting a referral significantly increases your probabilities of obtaining the job.

On on-line application

Using the present trend of technologies and company processes, increasingly more businesses are actually requesting potential candidates to provide their job application online.  Therefore, initial opinions are relayed not from you personally but from the high quality and written content of one’s e-mail. E-mails containing your CV ought to be refined and well articulated. When you are making an application online, make sure you use these additional suggestions:

Finish your phrases and don’t abbreviate.

Recruiters don’t like it when you send them job application letters that appear to be too informal. It’s essential to create a letter that’s both formal and very well written. This provides a great impression and also may show your level of expertise and abilities.

Get straight to your point

When creating a job application letter, you need to be concise and simple. Don’t add stories to the cover letter just to try to get more interest from the employer. It is likely that she or he will just get upset with you, which only decreases your likelihood of obtaining the job.

Obtaining a management job would like might be challenging but by no means lose hope. It’s much better to wait a while and get the position that you simply will appreciate instead of getting a position that will make you disappointed and sad. Make the proper choice and then act upon it.

Carol asks…

PLEASE HELP!! How do I find the exact dates of my previous jobs?

I’ve been employed at my current job for about 8 years. I’ve recently got news that I should start posting my resume. I DON’T HAVE ONE!! I’ve never had to make one. Now I need all the dates from my previous jobs. This don’t have (I couldn’t tell you the dates from my previous job). Is there any way to obtain these through social security records or something like that? Can I find this online? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, is there any cheap resume making services (you get what I mean.lol!)? Or should I just visit my local un-employment office? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Jeff answers:

For a resume you don’t need exact dates, just the month and year when you started and ended. And if you have to guess the month, that’s OK – if someone checks and finds out you were off by a month or two for a job from several years ago, that is probably not going to disqualify you.

As far as tips for writing a resume, your local unemployment office probably would be pretty helpful – and there are also loads of web sites that have sample resumes and tips – just go to google and search for resumes or resume writing, etc.

Jenny asks…

DO you think I would have a hard time finding employment with an online degree from a local university?

The university is over 3 hours away and I don’t want to move that far away from home, but they offer my bachelors degree online do you think employers would take that degree seriously since it is from a credited local university? the degree I want to take there is Bachelors of arts in community studies. You can do any kind of human service type job or further your education on to becoming a teacher, social worker, or a police officer. I want to get my BEd in secondary education with counseling as a master to become a guidance counselor. But for this online school I will only be taking my BACS.
It is acredited and it’s from a local university, also it does say on your diploma that you took it online so I thought it would be ok because they would have to ask if i took it online to know and if they did happen to ask I can tell them yes it was taking through distance and maybe that since it’s from a local well known university around my area that they will not look at it poorly.

Jeff answers:

I think that if you go to a good school such as Salve Regina University or Liberty University or St. Thomas University then its okay. Make sure the school is regionally accredited. You also will need to make sure that you have the skills needed for your chosen field and that you present yourself well in the interview(s). Good luck.

Robert asks…

How do I find a travel agent to assist me in my online business?

My wife and I will be launching an online business very soon to take advantage of the growth in the trend of home-based travel agents. However, I need someone with travel agent experience to help with training and support of new travel agents. When I search online for “hire a travel agent” there are plenty of travel agents who sell travel products and services. But I cannot find any that want employment (I can do this for most other occupations…like “hire an accountant”).

The travel agent I hire simply needs to have a desire to help people. They would simply answer questions from new travel agents about the best way to book travel. They do not need to relocate (they can work from home) or quit their job.

How do I find a person who meets this description?

Jeff answers:

I havent been a travel agent professionally, however I am a 21 year old college student who travels frequently. I am keen at making affordable deals and quality for the buck. Mother was working with several airlines as a reservationist, so have hands-on-knowledge. If interested email me for more info.

what is the best custody agreement for my child?

I have a rolling agreement with my exwife regarding custody of my 2 1/2 yr old daughter. I enjoy my daughter ever Monday – Wednesday (she picks her up Wednesday) and then every other weekend. It is 50/50. I have been giving an opportunity in a different state for employment. I have the ablity to have a better support system and career wise be able to support my little girl better. I would like to keep the custody 50/50 at least until she starts school. Every 2 months or every 3 months. The current schedule of back and forth every week is difficult for my daughter to settle in and create a normality. As soon as she does settle, it is time for change and she has to start over again. Plainly, I need to come up with an agreement that is best for my child. What legally can I do to suppoort the relationship with my daughter and give her the best life.

Jeff answers:

Simply do the best you can…

…now and forever.

Joseph asks…

Shared Parenting Questions?

I have shared parenting with my child’s father and Im the residential parent. I also let his father see the child whenever he wishes instead of following by the original agreement. I feel its in my sons best interest, to have both his parents involved in his life. I have been unemployed for a year and the town I live in is a dying city, I have been unable to find work and I am have a extremely hard time financially. I have an opprunituity to move to another state with better employment opportunities for myself and a better environment for my son. His father however does not want this move to happen. Can he stop me from moving with my son to another state? If so what can I do to make this move happen?
I live in Ohio and want to relocate to South Carolina. My son is 5. I have a friend there in South Carolina to help me get on my feet once I do move.
The Move would be to Greenville, SC area.

Jeff answers:

You will have to check with your state laws just to be sure, but in Illinois, you can’t do it without consent from your child’s father. If you move from the state with your child, you could be charged with kidnapping. You have to go to court and prove that you and your child’s life will drastically improve with the move. However, there are a lot of things that can hinder your case in court, i.e. If your child has never lived in another state, and if all of your child’s family lives in Ohio.

Sorry but you have a tough road ahead of you, unless you change your mind and decide that you want to give custody to your child’s father and it’s just you that moves out of state.

Paul asks…

My IE is running with add-ons disabled and I need to enable them and ActiveX – Please help.?

My IE is running with add-ons disabled and I need to enable them and ActiveX – I have tried everything and even followed MS’s instructions (below) to a tee and to no avail!! Is there anyone out there that can reply with step by step instructions. I have recently installed IE8 and was told to uninstall it to go back to IE7 but am unsure how to do that! I am very frustrated right now because I need the add-ons and ActiveX so that my Adobe Flash Point can play because I need all these in order to look for employment on the internet. Any and all assistance is very much appreciated! Thanks a bunch!!!

From the problem description, I understand that you had upgrade the IE 7 to Internet Explorer (IE) 8, but it runs without add-ons and cannot install ActiveX control. If there has been any misunderstanding, please let me know.

I understand the inconvenience you have experienced. Please be assured that I will do my best to help you.

Please understand that the IE 8 is just released, so many program cannot support it. After taking my steps, if the issue persists, I suggest that you uninstall IE 8 to back to old version IE from control panel.

So I suggest that we can reference the following article to troubleshoot the no add-ons issue.

http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/07/25/678113.aspx

After that, if you still can not install the ActiveX control, please take the following steps.

Step 1: Check ActiveX options

=======================

1. Start “Internet Explorer”.

2. On the “Tools” menu, click “Internet Options”.

3. In the “Internet Options” dialog box, click the “Security” tab, and then click “Internet”.

4. Under “Security level for this zone”, click “Custom Level”.

5. Under “ActiveX controls and plug-ins”, set all the following options:

Download signed ActiveX controls Enable or Prompt

Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins Enable or Prompt

Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting Enable or Prompt

6. Click “OK”, click “Yes”, and then click “OK”.

Note: If Windows XP Service Pack 2 has already been installed, please also check the top of the Internet Explorer window and see if the Information Bar displays a notification that the site is trying to run an ActiveX control. If so, please click on the Information Bar and install the ActiveX control. The publisher is “Microsoft Corporation”.

If you find any of the above files, please right click to rename the file to a new file name with the extension “old” (such as wuapi.old). Please understand that we may not find all the files listed above. If so, it is normal, and please continue to search for the rest of the files.

Step 2: Turn off the Pop-Up blocker

===========================

1. Start “Internet Explorer”.

2. On the “Tools” menu, point to “Pop-up Blocker, and then click “Turn Off Pop-up Blocker.”

2. When the “Windows Advanced Options” menu appears, select “Safe Mode”, and then press “Enter”.

3. Log onto Windows.

Note: In Safe Mode, your system display and Desktop will look and perform differently than in Normal Mode. This is only temporary. To return the system back to Normal Mode, we can simply restart the computer.

wuident.txt

wuredir.xml

wusetup.inf

Tip: when searching for multiple files in Windows, you may enter the file name consecutively like iuengine.dll; wuapi.dll; wuauclt.exe in the search field. This will speed up the whole process.

If any error occurs, please capture a screenshot for further research.

Jeff answers:

Whoa…before you do ALL that stuff above, try this.

If Internet Explorer 8 is always starting with “Add-Ons Diasbled” try these three procedures…

1. Enable all add ons

Open IE8
Select Tools > Manage Add-ons
Select all the Add-ons listed
Click the button

2. Check the IE8 shortcut(s)

Most people launch apps (browsers) from shortcuts…

Right-click on the shortcut you usually use
Select “Properties” from the popup menu
Look at the path name in the “Target” text window
Scroll to the end and look for these letters: -extoff
Click in the text line and delete those characters
Click the button
Click the button

3. Reset the browser

Open IE8
Select Tools > Internet Options
Select the Advanced tab (far right)
Click the button at the bottom of the panel
(Note; If you do this, you’ll have to do no.1 again)

Surviving Long Distance Relationship?

I was searching for the keyword “how to survive gay long distance relationship”.
I was inspired to write you and tell my story. My name is Yujin and I am from Manila, Philippines. It is lucky that my parents had accepted my sexuality since I officially came out at the age of 19. I am 29 years old now.

I had ended my 10 year relationship with another man last year. It should have ended on the 5th year but we tried to fix it. It survived another 5 years but those extra 5 years are becoming more and more difficult for both of us. and so, the relationship ended.

After it ended, I had short term relationships.. This has been I guess my way to tell myself that I am “still” young and I will be just fine without him (the man I lived with for the last 10 years). But since these were all “rushed” It did not work as well. I will be honest that my sexual level was high and I had those new relationship to satisfy the need.

Until one day October 19, 2009. I was seen by a guy whom I just added in one of those Social Network sites. He was just there in my profile page but we never get a chance to communicate. The next day, I received a letter from him saying “I saw you walking in front of Gateway Mall…just want to say hello”. I replied to him “You could have greeted me then please reach me at (my mobile number)”. And that afternoon, I received a text message from him.

And so we met in my house. lets call him by the name “Merck”. Of course since this guy waited for 2 years just for me know that he exists, he was so exited about it (both emotionally and sexually). One the very first time we met, something happened. But according to him he did not do it for lust. He did it to let me know that his waiting has come to an end. He asked if I am still seeing another person and he will understand..he just wants honesty. I told him of course I am free.

I do not know if destiny is really playful because when he visited my house for the first time, he received a call from the Employment Agency that his application to The Middle East is approved and he can now start working with his requirements. He is a Registered nurse. I told myself secretly “did he come just to say goodbye?”. I pretended happy but of course I was sad..I hate all forms of goodbyes. But I cannot hinder this person of his dream.

We dated and courted each other for the next 2 weeks until we official on October 30, 2010. He revealed to me everything. From his childhood, his favorites, family. The challenge that I had with him was he gets jealous..not in an unhealthy way. Its because he does not want to lose me anymore. It was nice and I assured him that “he will be the one”. He knows that I am prone to temptation and since he is a Christian, he had asked me to throw all my porn related materials. According to him, if I believe and I truly love him, I will do it because this act is for me anyways. I did that.

We enjoyed each other. He sees to it that we meet everyday, we go to church together, spend time quietly. We made plans and schemes and we do our best to survive. We were able to enjoy our “Monthsary”, Christmas and New Year. On January 1, 2010..He bought a pair of ring. Though we know that same sex marriage is not yet recognized in the Philippines, a simple moment of vows is good enough.

I love this guy. So in love with him that I forgot that time flies. February 17, 2010, we talked and he said that he will leave for Middle East on March 1, 2010.
I know that he will have to fly one of these days. I had accepted that situation. But I cant help but to cry and be sad. I have been reading books regarding LDR but how come I feel restless and fearful?
He assured me that he will be on vacation every 6 months and he is going to do this for our dream. He even looks forward that he will find me a job there related to my work (I am working in a contact center). My mom is very supportive with me and him and encourages us. He even told my mom that “I am HIS forever”.

Any advise on how I can survive this sadness?

Jeff answers:

I am currently in a LDR, I am from the middle east, he is from the UK …. We’ve been dating for 5 months now, and i tell you …. It is not easy, but it is doable if you are in love.

God bless technology, you will be using a lot of it. Make sure u have an account on skype, and that u have a web cam … U need to set certain dates and times that u will both commit to in order to talk to each other.

I have found this site quite helpful … Don’t forget to check the sub links in there too.

Question about taxes? PLEASE HELP!??????????

I know I may repeat myself but I am trying to explain the best way I can and this situation is confusing so even though I don’t have hardly any income just a little barely any but I still may have to hire a tax specialist or someone to help me figure this out with my taxes.

Anyways, I have a Illinois license, but I have a voters registration card in Texas I needed for another reason but even though I have the voters card in Texas I never voted at all. The last place I had a card and voted was in the state of Illinois and I still have my Illinois driver’s license. I have not worked for a company like a regular job for a few years but I have been earning income self employed but it is not much money at the moment but being self employed working from home the income is not consistent and not much money right now and I hardly earn anything just a little bit of money and I stay with relatives here in Texas but I am leaving here very soon. I know that no matter where I live I know that I have to file federal taxes regardless. I know that Texas have no state income tax but I really didn’t want the voters registration card but I needed for proof for something else but I never gave up my Illinois license and I never planned on being here in Texas this long anyway but I am leaving soon like I said. I am just wondering about state taxes and since I still have my Illinois license and I don’t own a home and I also have mail still going to Illinois too at my ex’s house. I know Texas is convenient for not having to file state taxes but I rather claim Illinois state taxes anyway. Basically with a Texas voters card expires in the end of 2011 and my license expires end of 2012, but I need to know which am I considered a resident of, Texas because of voter card or Illinois since I have a driver’s license there? I just need to know which state I need to claim for self employment state taxes and that is why I need you all to tell me which state am I considered a resident of and which one I have to file state taxes for being self employed.

Jeff answers:

You file where your home is. Another is where your physical body is..
Your choice.
Good luck.

Phsychology EXPERTS?

After college, i want to set up a phsychologist office in my area. SORT OF LIKE A PRIVATE SELF EMPLOYMENT and just be a physchologist that TALKS to people about their problems without doing any MEDICAL WORK LIKE TESTING PATIENTS FOR PROBLEMS WITH MACHINE/ETC NOT THAT I JUST WANT TO SORT OF “COUNCIL” THEM.

*I need to know if the “private office” thing is ok after i get my Ph.D and other degrees or will the government now allow it. Is that legal setting up a private psychology office for self-employment with possibly a secretary or is that against a law.

*How long would it take in college + med school to FINALLY START MY JOB IN YEARS?

*What’s type of psychologist JUST COUNCILS PATIENTS and not DO MEDICAL STUDIES,ETC??

Please answer all 3 starred questions to recieve best answer

Thanks

Jeff answers:

Psychologists do not go to medical school. You would need to get a bachelors degree in psychology and then attend graduate school to get your PhD or PsyD. A Counselling psychology or Clinical psychology program would provide you with the the type of training you would need to set up a private practice.

In terms of the amount of time it would take, you are looking at four years of undergrad and then five or six to get your doctorate. Plus, a one year internship. So you are looking at ten years minium.

Many psychologists set up private practices.- it is not againstt the law.

Hope that helps. Good luck.

Laura asks…

How do you feel about this girl’s real story of tattoo regret?

To me, it almost makes me cry. I want to know your thoughts about it, and will it make you change any of your tattoo plans? Remember, Tattoos are PERMANENT!

The best quote: “I really wish I would have never began this insane body modification as I am now a mature adult with a great corporate job, family responsibilities & the desire to be more feminine I guess – Not such a freakshow.”

The whole story: “Hi! I am 21 & have my entire back tattooed -Yeah, the whole thing.. I got the first piece done for my 13th birthday. That piece was done by an amateur & ended up scarring horribly. I mean BAD. To this day the 4×4 tribal piece is easily irritated, always puffy & well.. scarred. I was so self conscious about it that I decided to add to it – aiming to take the focus away from the black scar.. So at 15 I added to it… I was involved with the wrong crowd of people at that time in my life & was exposed to heavily tattooed people so it was “no big deal” – Plus, this was a while ago & the removal procedures/theories were fairly new & extremely pricey! To make a long story short by 19 I had most of my back piece done. It is very colorful, containing: black, white, greywash, violets, turquoise, orange, green, red etc.. I am very very serious about removing it but am terrified of the scarring. Not so much the cost but the chance of a bad heal w/ scarring & tattoo traces unable to be removed. I really wish I would have never began this insane body modification as I am now a mature adult with a great corporate job, family responsibilities & the desire to be more feminine I guess – Not such a freakshow. It’s like living two lives with this amount of ” permanent art”.. Thats just the thing – PERMANENT – Wasnt thinking about that @ 13…I know it sounds dumb & this probably isnt the forum to post my story in but I really want some “real” feedback. We all know that $$ is the name of the game & everyone will try to sell you something – especially when they can take advantage of others in such an emotional desperation oriented way. I was considering this tat be gone – sounds weak though – maybe good on a little tattoo – what about a huge back piece?! Can someone vouch for the credibility of removal on large long lived professional tattoo’s?!”

From http://www.faqs.org/qa/qa-634.html if you want to see the original post

remember:

“The fact that so many people change their minds (up to 80%) should lead you to think carefully about whether you want to lock yourself into a fashion statement that might cause you a lot of aggravation and heartache later in life.” (Laura Reybold, Everything you need to know about the dangers of tattooing and body piercing, p. 32)

“What so few realize, tragically, is that such a mark [tattoo] becomes the albatross around the neck for all time.” (Ronald Scutt, Art, Sex and Symbol, 1974, p. 181)

“Emotional risks[of tattoos] include negative feelings you might have as a result of getting a tattoo or piercing. Social risks are those that could damage your relationship with others, including friends, parents, teachers, and employers. . . For example, body modification can affect your chances for future employment. Certain jobs are not available to people who have visible body art.” (Bonnie B. Graves, Tattooing and body piercing”)
I guess you can look at the answer of a person like “Rae’s Momma” and ask yourself, “Do I want to be like her?” If the answer is “yes”, then get a tattoo. If the answer is “No, she sure sounds ignorant to me”, then do not join her in tattooing yourself! Very easy choice, I think.
“al b”, go to a differnt section if you want to talk about other issues. this one is for tattoos. (P.S. you sound a little confused to me. try a 12 step program is my suggestion.

Jeff answers:

I’m the same as daniaka. I’ve always wanted tattoos and I thank God I didn’t get the ones I wanted as a teenager because I would regret those, but the ones I have now that I got as an adult have alot of personal meaning to me and I put years of thought into. I doubt I will ever regret them.

Mary asks…

If I was moving from England to Canada, which areas would be the best?

Canada looks lovely from what I have seen, and Canadian friends say the quality of life in Canda is better than in the UK.
But I have never been and I do not know which areas would be good to consider.
Both my and my boyfriends professions are on the “skilled worker” list, so work should be easy to find (or am I wrong here?)
The factors that are important to us include:
climate – not cold all year
cost of living – mut not be too high
land and outdoor space
English speaking (our French is pretty basic)
No poisonous or massive spiders(!)
employment opportunities.

I would like to bring my 4 cats over if we come – would that be a problem?
How expensive is medical care?

Also, are bears and wolves a problem or is this a myth?

Thanks for your help, I know I am asking a lot, but any info, answers or opinions would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Jeff answers:

Assuming that you can get through immigration ok, I do not think work should not be a major problem but I am retired and no longer in the know about work situations.

Unless you pick a place up north (and why would you?) most of the country experiences 4 seasons. Vancouver, being on the Pacific rarely sees winter (a day of snow occasionally) although most of B.C. Does.

Cost of living wipes Vancouver out of the equation anyway – it’s not the cheapest place to live!

This is Canada and next to the UK, we are HUGE. Lots of land and outdoor spaces, especially outside of the major cities.

English is the main language outside of Quebec.

Poisonous spiders?? Don’t think so! Maybe a daddy long legs here or there. And it’s nice to be good to the spiders here – they keep the other bugs down Other bugs being flies, mosquitoes and like that.

Your cats would definitely need to have their shots, especially rabies. I could type all the info out but it is already done at this link:

http://www.pettravel.com/immigration/Canada.cfm

I have lived in this country all my life – 63 years and have never seen a bear outside of the far north and the National Parks. Well, that is not entirely true. Every now and then one will wander into Calgary and the wildlife people hustle it back to Banff. Not a worry really. I have seen even fewer wolves. I remember when I was about 16 years old, there was a wolf attack about 50 miles north of the small town I lived in in Quebec and I have seen a few in the National Parks. Some cattle that disappeared out west was blamed on the wolves but it is just as likely that it was rustled. I do not think they constitute a problem. It must be a myth.

Hope this helps.

i would like to seek some advice/tips about new zealand immigrati. i am interested in migrating to the place.?

i am a filipino and i am wishing for a greener pasture for bigger reasons like the worsening economic and political situation in my country of origin. i would like to hear comments and suggestions regarding New Zealand, as a place to start a family and a better venue to develop my marketing profession and hone my skills. you see, i came from a 3rd world country. Situation here had pushed professionals away in search for a better life in other developed countries. There are 4 countries, which are frequently migrated, US, Canada, Australia and NZ. Which one’s the best? Assuming that US doesn’t give me an equal employment opportunity so left me for Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Give me hints/tips/advices so, i’ll know if i’ll push through with my independent immigration in New Zealand. I am already on the personal interview stage to be held overseas, Bangkok, Thailand.

Jeff answers:

New Zealand is a fantastic country to be in,in terms of culture, wheather and also the people there.I dont think there is any racial discrimination in that country,so it is a safe place to go or even a place to settle down.New Zealand is a country which is not as urban as the U.S but it has a mixture of nature and city lifestyles.I have been there once and it gives me a extremely good experience. The people there are also kind and nice.It is definitely a good place,no doubt. It is worth it.If you want more of urban living settle down in the north part of New Zealand,if u want to live nearer to the nature settle down in the southern part of New Zealand

Why don’t I have a job? Any tips?

Small summary of resume and work history: Graduated with Business/Healthcare Mgt. degree with honors(3.34gpa), Interned for 5 months(unpaid,my last semester),unpaid volunteer job(7 months), worked for pay throughout college with some gaps(3 jobs altogether),worked two jobs my freshman year, volunteered with two local orgs. for a year, received a couple academic honors/inducted into 2 academic honor groups. Great with computers, typing skills, etc….Great references (at least I think),plus work references….
I get nervous on interviews, but overall I think I do well, however, its been a year since I graduated.
I’ve put in applications everywhere(hospitals,clinics,non-profit,… stores, some restaurants,etc.). I put in at least 100+ applications and resumes in the last year with only 5 unsuccessful interviews and that includes one testing session and an interview with an employment/temporary agency.
Besides putting on a little weight because I’m stressed,I still look ok, I’m not overweight or anything. I make sure to look good during interviews and dress either business or over-casual. I am a black woman with natural hair, but my hairstyle isn’t anything over the top. I make sure to smile, look confident, look them in the eye,try to answer their questions thoroughly, but I also try not to be so formal, esp. when they aren’t.
I know we’re in a recession, but I need something. I don’t know what is going on. I’m getting so frustrated. What do you think I could be doing wrong? Any tips, advice, personal stories?

Jeff answers:

I don’t know what part of the country you live in, but it’s a bad economy to some degree everywhere.
People are sometimes delusional about how they present themselves to the world. You say you are nervous in interviews, but how does that nervousness manifest itself? Do you sweat like you just ran a marathon or do you look like a deer in headlights? Maybe the area you live in is all wrong for you and you need to relocate.

Please Help?

Sexual harassment is one of the biggest problems facing schools and businesses today. A week rarely goes by without a remainder of the pervasiveness of sexual harassment as a social problem. Sexual harassment is a growing problem in government agencies, schools, and corporations worldwide. Many corporations are adopting new anti-harassment policies, as are schools and agencies. They definition of sexual harassment is any unwanted or inappropriate sexual attention. It includes touching, looks, comments or gestures. A key part of sexual harassment is that it is one-sided and unwanted. Employers and administrators have a duty to investigate allegations of sexual harassment. An increasing number of companies are searching for new ways to protect themselves against these allegations. Many more corporations around the county are adopting their own anti-harassment and implementing ever clearer definitions of sexual harassment to combat this growing problem. Chief Executive Officers should do a variety of things to stop sexual harassment in the workplace. The most important thing is for upper-level management to make it clear to workers that harassment of any kind will not be tolerated. If top managers don’t take the issues seriously, employees wont either. Managers must also understand that they are responsible for their employees. Companies need an explicit written policy on sexual harassment that is widely available in the workplace. Most consultants advise companies to do more than just to post the policy on bulletin board. They say that the policy should be repeatedly distributed in new employee orientation packets. Employees should have clear definitions of what sexual harassment includes and what it doesn’t include. Many companies are now offering employee training sessions on sexual harassment and many say that the follow-up training is a good idea. Training programs should include all employees, rather than just the managers. The tone should not be specifically apply to males or females and the meeting should avoid heavy discussions of male harassment that might cause some resentment among the male employees. Many times programs arent effective because a lot time is spent attacking men and not the crime . Companies need a good system to deal with complains. A clear process for handling complaints shows that a company takes them seriously. Until 1991, it was hard for women to make allegations of sexual harassment since they often felt that there was nothing they could do about it. During the fall of 1991, the subject of sexual harassment attracted news headlines. Everyone began discussing the issue and emotions ran high. However, the highly publicized hearings that involved Clarence Thomas and Anita hill changed everything. Judge Clarence Thomas was nominated to be a Supreme Court Justice. Supreme Court Justices have their jobs for life and cannot be fired. Before a person can be made a Justice, he or she must be questions and approved by Congress. judge Thomas had once been the head of a U.S. agency called the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The EEOC makes sure everyone is treated fairly when applying for a job. It also enforces laws against sexual harassment. Anita Hill is a law professor. She worked with the judge thomas at the EEOC many years ago. A few weeks into the congressional investigation, she came forward and accused him of sexual harassment. She claimed that she used to constantly ask her for dates and spoke to her about pornographic films he had seen. Anita hill said that while she was deeply offended by these remark she felt that she could not complain because thomas was her boss. She though that her career could be in trouble if she made a cuss. Anita Hill was a very believable witness, but Judge THOMAS DENIED HER charges in the strongest possible terms. WHo was telling the truth. The country was divided. The issue was being discussed everywhere. Women from all across the nation told of their experiences with sexual harassment and many mend admitted to being insensitive to this issue. Finally the senate voted to approved Judge Thomas but the vote was close. Many senators had doubts about Thomas character. Others did not think that his career should be destroyed because of one persons story. They said there was not enough evidence to prove that there was wrongdoing. In the end, nearly everyone agreed that sexual harassment is a serious problem to which everyone must become more sensitive. Women are not the only victims are sexual harassment. More and more men are being harassed in the workplace, classrooms, and locker rooms. Men can be victimized by both women and / or other men. THere are other ways to avoid being sexually harassed. For example keep your relationships at work strictly on business level. If you work in the same room as the harasser, somehow create a barrier between the two work stations. Do not ask for personal favors or special treatment from the harasser so that h
that he or she will not feel owed anything. Do not talk about anything personal. Sexual harassment is always wrong . No one deserves it. It is always hurtful to the victim. If everyone confronts this problem men and women would be able to work better together at school, and At work. They would be able to build less stressful relationships. Do not be afraid to report it. The sooner you complain, the problem will be resolved.

Question:

The author of this aritcle has strong opinions on sexual harassment. Do you think he or she presents the argument logically. Why or why not? Use examples from the passage to support your answer

Ruth asks…

I’m having a panic attack, so overwhelmed!! Feel like the whole worlds mocking me! Any advice plez!!?

I’m in my 20′s and recently graduated college last may, and yes I have a job but it’s only a seasonal temp position at a theme park that lasts till November. My field is graphic art. So for the past three weeks I’ve been job huntin like crazy. I put resumes out like everyday and been following up with postions I’m still interested in and theres been a few responses and prospects but no real offers yet!! and its driving me crazy. I just wanna job in my field thats more permanent so that I can get steady income and cause I’m still living at home with my parents like a f**king loser!! Everyone who I know thats my age already has their own place, well thats what it seems like anyway, so I just don’t know what I’m doing wrong here. I’ve been working my a$$ off trying to find that job that will get me my own apartment. Yes I pay some bills now like my insurance, food, gas, and other necessity items. I have over $8,000 saved up to pay student loans and stuff. I’m extremely low maitnenance and don’t ask a lot at all from my parents, but I still feel like a loser cause I haven’t found financial freedom yet. Agggh, I’m going nuts here, trying to figure out what I want to do with my life before I hit menopause!!! Of course my mom supports me and praises my strong efforts in finding permanent employment, but I feel like shes saying that cause shes my mom and is just trying to make me feel better, that she’s mocking me and doesnt really mean it. No one else around me judges me for still living at home, but I feel that deep down that they really do and just don’t wanna be honest and come outta the closet and say that I’m a loser. I feel like such a dipsh*’t. My mom also says that if I keep acting all worried freaking out and living in fear, then it’ll just take longer to find another job and push things away–WTF?–I tell her that I don’t act nervous in front of interviewers and potential employers and I don’t freak out in public or anything. I always act professional in emails, conversations, and know job interview rules, and dress and act for the part, I proofread resumes before sending, so I don’t see how I’m pushing opportunities away–she then says it’s not about my behavior in public, it’s more about my way of thinking, that I think too negative and I’m projecting all this “negative energy” out in the universe and what I think about becomes bigger–I’m sorry but if I’m putting in my best effort in finding another job, I don’t see any logic in that; I need a scientific explanation. I mean, what is the deal with this “negative energy” bullcrap?? So is there anything I’m missing here, as far as finding a job goes? Am I like seriously falling short of something or am I just putting too much pressure on myself? I appreciate anyones input.
Woo hoo!! Yay! A scientific explanation from the last answerer John! The serotonin and learned behavior thing makes a lot of sense now, lol. ;-)

Jeff answers:

Believe it or not, I actually read your whole rambling diatribe. ;-)

If you write like this in any business correspondence, you will not get a job. It reads like you didn’t take a breath. Plus you gave too much of yourself in here. Remember, people really don’t want to know everything, especially in business relationships.

However, in this forum, honesty is a good thing.

Let me tell you about myself, then I want you to look at the people around you and compare them to me.

I’m 44 and work of the USPS. $52,000 a year, great benefits, crappy hours, psycho coworkers, divorced, and no life. Does that sound like any people you know? I’m a wage slave!

You are in the Perfect place right now to be the master of your own life. Stay at home and think about starting you own business. Do most of the work from home, then move it to a van, then maybe a store front in a few years.

If you don’t know what to do, then look at the places you are applying to. What do they do and who are their customers? Copy them. You don’t have to be original, you just have to do a good job. Start small, live at home, do the work there, then expand slowly.

Talk to your mother about this and see if she will help you. You have a great future in front of you if you will apply yourself. You friends who are wage slaves and using all their money to pay for rent and cable TV will be jelous of you in a few years.

Is My Financial Aid Appeal Letter Good Enough to Help My Obviously Bleak Situation?

Dear Financial Aid Department,

In the past, I blamed my lack of performance in higher education on rough circumstances. However, I believe I see the truth of the matter as if I was blind before. The reason I had a problem in academic performance were not the rough circumstances themselves, but rather how I reacted to them. They changed me into a lazy individual with no motivation to better myself. For example, in the last year, I would find myself laying in bed missing classes while in perfectly good health. My apartment was a mess, and I always found myself jobless for extended periods of time.

I had a problem and luckily I had friends that helped drag me out of my rut. I’m on a whole new path. I actually make sure I get up and get things done now. For example, I set up a cleaning schedule for the apartment that is rigorously followed, and the apartment looks great. I did lose my job, but it was seasonal employment. I instantaneously went out and applied at over 20 different locations, and I am currently waiting to attend my second interview for Home Depot on Friday.

When it comes to school I intend to take my newfound improved attitude and apply it there. This semester, I plan to take two math courses, a geography course, and an ethics course. I intend to pass those with flying colors, because it is something that I want to do. Following that I plan to go on a strict schedule with a maximum of 14 credit hours per semester and continue to apply myself to the best of my ability until graduation day and beyond.

I’m at school to better myself, and I understand that opportunities are limited. I messed up in the past, but I’m ready to take on the future. Therefore, I ask for your utmost regard when it comes to reinstating my financial aid. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Jeff answers:

I would NOT take two math courses in one semester ever… Also DON’T use the sentence “I intend to pass with flying colors.” You can intend to do a lot and end up not following though for one reason or another. It also sound arrogant.

“I did lose my job, but it was seasonal employment.” sounds like you are making an excuse I would leave this out as well.

You are going to need to actually state what your problem was and include supporting documentation. (ie. Medical bills, bills for therapy, maybe a statement from the friend that helped realize you had a problem ect.)

Advice for moving to California….?

I am desperate to move out of the current state I’m in. There is no opportunity here for anything career wise. What draws me to California is the weather and more opportunity. My boyfriend works for an excavating company here so I’m sure he’d like to get into the same kind of job there if possible. Does anyone from there have any advice to offer regarding this situation? What are jobs like there? I’m looking around the San Diego area, maybe a little close to Los Angeles, within an hour from possibly. I have some money saved up, around $12,000, that could be used for a down payment on a house or rent etc. I have 2 young kids, and I have heard how expensive it is there, but I am not any better off where I’m at now, I’m kinda trapped in a world of no opportunity. I also work from home, making around 30,000 annually (which my career will go with me, its nationwide employment). I just need to find a decently priced, and safe area to live. I am not expecting it to be the best, obviously. What is the best a person just starting out in California can get?

Jeff answers:

California IS expensive, but there is a lot of appeal to live there for the reasons you state. I would look on Trulia.com which is a real estate listing site. I’d look there NOT to buy real estate, but for the statistical data you can get about different places you may be considering and for what people say about those places. Even if you can afford it, I’d advise against buying real estate until you’ve spent some time there and are in a better position to judge where and how you want to live. Look for a rental in a place you’ve researched from Trulia and other sites you may come across.

What is the best answer to “What are your weaknesses?”?

I had a job interview recently and was very well prepared until the employer asked me what I thought my weaknesses were… I honestly didn’t know how to answer that question so I quickly made up something that didn’t sound bad. What is the best way to answer that question without making me look bad?

Jeff answers:

You need to answer in a way that doesn’t make you sound like a fool such as Michael on the sit-com The Office. Although he had the right idea. You need to say weaknesses that can be perceived as a strength as well. A double edged sword of sorts you could say. Such as impatience it can be con-strewed to mean you’re eager and like results, but can be short tempered and well impatient.

David asks…

What is the best way to be prepared for an interview?

I have an interview today at 2:45 PST. and I really need some advice and what types of questions to be expected to answer. Also, I have written down a few questions of my own to ask the employer. Please let me know if these questions are okay and what you would ask differently?

1. What is the typical work week?
2. What are the prospects for growth and advancement?
3. What are your likes and dislikes about working here?
4. When can I expect to hear back from you?

Please only serious answers. This is very important that I do well at the interview.

Jeff answers:

It is great that you have come up with questions for your interviewer! The only question out of those 4 questions I would be cautious about asking is #3 because that person may not tell you what they dislike about working there out of fear. The other questions are very good. You may also want to ask, “What is a ‘day-in-the-life’ like?” In other words, you may want to ask exactly what your position will entail. If the company has a website make sure you explore it. That may help you come up with another question if you need one.

Good luck! Feel free to check out my blog called Jobless Genevieve. I posted recently on common interview questions and interview tips. It is a blog with job searching, job application, resume, interview, etc. Tips! Hope it helps!

Daniel asks…

On an interview, if you are asked if you have any kids or are married…?

What is the best way to answer a potently employer when asked these questions? I went on a couple of interviews and was ask if I had any kids or was I married.
It is against the law.
I don’t think its important to ask, its not a matter of telling the truth because I will. It’s a matter of not wanting to answer the question a all.

Jeff answers:

Since you know that it’s not only unethical but illegal for the employers to ask, you can either decline to comment or bring to their attention that you know the question to be illegal. However, depending on how much you want the job, you may want to be careful how you word it. If they are integral, they will be pleased that you not only know your rights and aren’t afraid to stand up for yourself or they will be put off by your reprimand. Either way, you decide if you want to work for a company that asks such questions in 2007! They never and wouldn’t still, ask a MAN that question. So remember that an interview is not only for them to get to know you and figure out if they want you, but it’s for YOU to figure out if you want THEM. Good luck.

How to become wealthy?

I am a sophomore now and my major is still undecided because I don’t know what is the best degree to get in this economic time.
I always wanted to be a doctor but I realized I only wanted to do it for the money. Not only do I not have the money for med school, I also realized doctors don’t get paid that much. Its not like all doctors live in mansions and drive a Ferrari. Their annual income is a lot but their money could never touch Bill Gates and Donald Trump’s money.

So I want to know which job pays the most. Keep in mind I don’t have money for graduate school so I need know which major I should pick that would get me a good paying job right out of college.

Everyone says computer engineering since it pays good right off the bat and I could always use it to open my own business in the future.

My long term goal is to be self employed, I have experienced being laid off and living in my car and it wasn’t a good feeling. This is the main reason I want to be rich so don’t think I just want the money to spend it on foolish things. Its more of a ‘peace of mind’ thing for me since what I went through still haunts me.

So I would love to read your advice on which degree to get and what to do after I get the degree. I am not interested in any get rich quick schemes, I just want to know how to use my money to make money and build wealth over a period of time.

Jeff answers:

You have the right attitude. Building wealth takes time. So – here is an oversimplified plan for you to use as a guide

1 – get your degree
2 – find a job in a career you love. This is important – doing work you like allows you to grow and excel. This will make people pay you more for what you do. Sales in a tech field allows for a lot of flexibility and can be quite lucrative.
3 – subscribe to Money magazine. It is the best $20 you will ever spend. Or, read it for free at the library.
4 – keep your housing expense to a minimum. Preferably under 10% of what you make.
5 – when you buy a house STAY THERE. Selling and buying costs a LOT.
6 – save AGGRESSIVELY – invest for the long term. (see item 3 for help)
7 – when you must, buy a late model used vehicle with a reputation for low maintenance costs. Plan to keep for 10 years.

If you do this and start right out of school, you will be wealthy by 55 – but work will be a pleasure since you are in a field you love! Keep taking some classes to stay on top of what is new in your field.

Btw – doing this makes you a patriot as it is good for the country.

Good Luck!

Mary asks…

What do you think about this article. (Its about American immigration)?

American Immigration Past and Present: A Simulation Activity

Historical Overview

Throughout its history, America has served as the destination point for a steady flow of immigrants. During the colonial era most migrants came from northern European countries. Their numbers declined with the onset of the Revolutionary War during the 1770s, but immigration later picked up strongly again during the 1840s and 1850s. New arrivals came from several European countries during this period, but most came from Ireland and Germany, where devastating crop failures forced many residents to leave their homelands. Many settled in New York City, where the population increased from 200,000 residents in 1830 to 515,000 in 1850. By 1860, New York was home to over one million residents. More than half of the city’s population at that time were immigrants and their American-born children.

After the Civil War, America’s growing industrial economy required the addition of many more workers, and this need was filled once again by immigrants arriving from Europe. Approximately 25 million arrived between 1866 and 1915. While earlier immigrants had come mainly from northern European countries such as England, Germany, and the Scandinavian countries, by the 1880s most new immigrants were arriving from southern and eastern European countries such as Italy, Poland and Russia. Like their Irish predecessors, most of these new arrivals were poor and uneducated. Many were peasants from rural regions who were being pushed out by Europe’s industrial revolution.

With the U.S. entry into World War I in 1919, immigration declined dramatically, and remained low through the Depression era of the 1930s and the World War II years of the early 1940s. The number of new arrivals began to increase again during the late 1940s, and has risen steadily since that time.

Recent Trends:

Today’s immigrants arrive from all parts of the world. The current phase of immigration history began in 1965, when strict quotas based on nationality were eliminated. In 1978, the United States government set a single annual world quota of 290,000, and this ceiling was raised again in 1990 to 700,000. During the 1990s, immigrants have arrived at a pace that at times has exceeded one million new arrivals per year, and have settled in all parts of the country.

Issues to Consider

Although immigration provides one of the most colorful chapters in our country’s history, it has also brought a host of problems which have not been so easily resolved. For example, cultural differences and language barriers among different ethnic groups have frequently given rise to hostilities between them. Also, immigrants’ inability to quickly assimilate themselves to the norms of mainstream American social life have often prevented them from realizing the economic advancement they sought when they left their homelands. Furthermore, today the nation’s economy has reached a point of maturity, and avenues for rapid economic and territorial expansion have largely been closed. It is by no means clear that we can provide steady employment for the large number of immigrants who continue to arrive at our shores with the hope of attaining better lives for themselves.

For these reasons, it is essential that we examine current policies in order to assess whether they best serve the interests of both American citizens and of those immigrants who arrive with the belief that opportunities for a good life will be available here. At issue is the general question of whether we should continue our longstanding policy of openness, or “close the gates” in order to protect the existing levels of prosperity that most American citizens enjoy.

Specifically, we need to consider these difficult questions:

* How many immigrants should we continue to admit?
* Should we continue our present policy of one general quota, or should future immigration be restricted to specific nations and/or races?
* On what criteria should we base these policy decisions?
* How should we enforce these policy decisions?

_______________________________________________
These are my questions.

If you were a republican, what would say about this
If you were a democrat, what would say about this
If you were an immigrant what would say about this
right or wrong?

Jeff answers:

* How many immigrants should we continue to admit?

Only as many as needed to replace the current population, we are full.

* Should we continue our present policy of one general quota, or should future immigration be restricted to specific nations and/or races?

All non-whites should be barred from migrating to the USA.

* On what criteria should we base these policy decisions?

Making the USA a better place.

* How should we enforce these policy decisions?

Withdraw the military from Iraq and Afghanistan and put them on the southern border.

There are two ways to look at this, as an American, or as a non-American.

military essay!! tell me what you think? tell me what needs to be done?

Military life is much different than civilian life because the military member is subject to orders from their command, they can’t necessarily call in sick, or quit, or do many of the things people can do in a civlian job…this can effect the family somewhere along the line.
Military life can be rough, but it is also a very prideful thing to experience. Being a Marine wife, I can honestly say I have never been more proud of someone/something in my life.
Although military life can be rough and it can be challenging when orders sometimes make life seem impossible, the military is also usually pretty great at making sure families are taken care of. There are family readiness programs for each unit, and other things of that nature, plenty of resources for the family if they are ever in need of anything whether during deployments or when the military member is stateside.
More frequent and longer deployments are becoming customary in today’s military. As a result, military families find themselves adjusting their lifestyle to accommodate these changes. In this section you will find information such as; what to expect regarding communicating with the service member during the deployment, who to go to for information or assistance when the service member is gone, what support services are available. Additionally, you’ll find helpful hints on how to prepare for a deployment and the ensuing reunion as well as tips for sending care packages or finding additional daycare. Deployments can put stress on the military family, but utilizing the resources available to you will help you manage the challenges and make the best of the experience.
Military families know that military service is not a job, it’s a lifestyle. For families, military service provides endless opportunities for adventure and learning; however, at the same time families are subject to unique challenges. This section provides information to make the most of the adventure and conquer the challenges. Some feel that one of the greatest benefits of military service is the opportunity to live in other countries.
Here you’ll find information that can help you make the most of the experience. You’ll also find information on topics such as spouse employment, childcare, and housing that can help ease the transition during frequent moves. Additionally, we’ve provided information to help you manage deployments and separation and make the most of the reunion. The easiest way to manage our unique lifestyle is through education and the sharing of resources.
deployments are brief (a few weeks), then you have the 6 month cruises. Those can be difficult but if you talk about it and plan your course of action for bill paying then it can be okay. Yes it can be lonely but if you have friends seek them out do stuff. If you work outside the home then you have a way of occupying your mind. Kids most well never have a problem but it’s fun to get ready for mom/dad to come home at the end of a deployment make special treats during send care packages (food on the ships stink) they have access to email so you can send email back and forth (it may be limited depending on where they are.
They talk whenever they have a chance to call you or get on a computer they cant talk about whats going cause someone listens in on all your phone conversations.
wounded servicemembers have wounded families and that the Nation must
ensure the emotional, financial, and readjustment requirements of these families are met. Many
have asked for an easy-to-use guide that would help them navigate the initial stages after a servicemember’s
injury. Differently based on the degree of injury, it is prudent for servicemembers before they deploy to make
families aware of the notification and transition process that will take place should they become wounded.

Its nice to have the military evolve with time. It was hard in the past for the military to gain acceptance of technology. Now its is a must for survival. I remember not to long ago in Desert Shield/Storm that we still had to communicate by postal mail and once in a great while you got to use the SATCOM to call home for about a 10 min conversation. And I thought to myself ‘wow this is great, I dont know how they could handle it back in the day’. Now, I am amazed at what technology has done for the morale of todays troops. It is still hard being away from families and friends.

Thomas asks…

Husband is unemployed and being a jerk. Help?

We are fighting. A LOT. Everything I do he gets mad about. Example: We used an employment agency a few weeks ago and the agency was totally incompetent so we ditched them. He went to another one and it seemed better and I told him I was excited. That night I asked him if he was planning on dropping off some resumes today and he gets angry because I burst his bubble about the employment agency. I seriously see correlation. I mean, okay, the employment agency is good, but why would that stop you from sending out more resumes and further more why would you become hostile and angry about it?

I try to talk to him and he is a total a-hole. He accuses me of playing games and of all sorts of crazy things that are not me. He takes a word or comment of mine and turns it into something really insane, like “Pass me the peas please.” is meant with “Why did you say it like that and look at me that way? Next time say please first so that I know you are being kind and not angry.”

WTF, over?

Sex is gone. He took it away from me about five months ago. I used to ask him why and what was wrong but he would tell me its all about the job. I stopped asking about two months ago and we barely touch each other. To be honest, I don’t even know how to get to where we were now. The way he has treated me I do not even try anymore. When he touches me and I am barely responsive, he just gives up. There is no chase, no pursuit, just this weird entitlement. I am sick of it.

Lately he started being hostile, he yells, throws things and slammed the car brakes on one day and I touched the windshield. Weird thing is it is out of the blue and I don’t even know its coming.

I walk around on egg shells, I don’t want to talk because he will twist my words like I am attacking him. He is hostile, fragile, will not take responsibility for his actions and turns it all on me.

He says its all about getting a job, but wow, he hardly looks. He looks on the internet but does not go out and be proactive or give a call to see if they received his resume. Things work different here then most places, its small towny here and remote and you really need to network yourself rather than relying on the internet. There are opportunities here, but he will not get out of the house to utilize them.

He is fussy, persnickety, picky, and hostile. He is withdrawn, drinking too much, and unhappy.

Oh, we have been married since March and he moved all the way to my home state to be with me. We both though it would be wonderful, but now it seems we are in two different worlds. We have never had the dating phase really.

I want my best friend and husband back. I don’t know him anymore I feel and I do not feel worth anything to him either.

We both threaten to throw in the towel occasionally. I just feel more and more of my “give a darn” lever being pushed off.

I want this to work, I really don’t know what to do.

Jeff answers:

It is standard procedure for men to go crazy when unemployed. Our egos and selves are really invested in our jobs. As long as he keeps looking for work, I would try to deal with the moodiness until he gets work and then see if he goes back to normal. I’d expect he would.
